Department Receives Funding for Public Education
Firefighter
Training Materials, Public Education DVD's Part of Grant Package
TROY, MI
(March 18, 2008) - Oakland Insurance Agency and Fireman's Fund
Insurance Company will award a $6,237 grant to the Troy Fire
Department as it continues in its efforts to educate firefighters and
the community through fire prevention classes.
The grant
allows the fire department to purchase two LCD projectors along with
several public educational DVD's and escape ladders that will be
distributed to low-income residents who demonstrate need.
"It only
takes a few seconds for a small flame to get completely out of
control and turn into a major fire, or only minutes for black smoke
to fill an entire house trapping victims while they are asleep,"
said Troy Fire Chief William Nelson. "Because of these facts,
the Troy Fire Department plans to continue its fire prevention
efforts by holding presentations and dispensing fire safety
educational materials to the citizens of Troy."

delighted that this grant will provide fire safety training and
educational programs to the many families in our community,"
said John Growney, president for Oakland Insurance Agency.

Fire Department."

recognition event and demonstration where the grant package will be presented:
The grant
package is part of a nationwide program called Fireman's Fund
Heritage® which is funded by Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and
educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman's
Fund has issued grants to hundreds of different departments totaling
more than $17 million. Independent insurance agencies that sell
Fireman's Fund products are able to direct these grants to support
fire stations in their communities. Oakland Insurance Agency was
instrumental in directing this specific donation to the Troy Fire Department.
